In a candid conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria ,NAN, in Abuja, Mr. David Greene, the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, underscored the United States’ steadfast commitment to fostering sustainable peace between Israel and Palestine.

Greene, responding to concerns about the global divide sparked by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, expressed deep distress over the ongoing violence in Gaza, emphasizing its discouraging impact.

“The situation in Gaza with Israel is broadly distressing and undermines everyone’s hopes and aspirations. What we want is for the people of the region – Palestine and Israel – to live in peace, security, and safety with dignity. This is something we’ve advocated for a very long time with our international partners,” Greene asserted.

He highlighted the U.S.’s enduring commitment to a two-state solution, grounded in mutual agreements from the past. “I see, for example, the progress and the call for a two-state solution. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has restated our commitment to working toward this solution based on the 1967 mutual agreement-plan, including land swaps,” Greene stated.

Recalling President Joe Biden’s consistent statements and Blinken’s affirmations regarding the U.S.’s stance on the conflict, Greene emphasized the existing formula and the global consensus on the two-state solution. Drawing parallels with experiences in Nigeria, he noted,

“It is a kind of violence that Nigerians are rather familiar with, the experience from Boko Haram and other terrorist organizations.”

Greene concluded by asserting the U.S.’s dedication to playing a significant role in breaking the cycle of violence. “We are doing our part to find ways to move beyond this circle of violence and allow Israelis, Palestinians, and other people in the region to live in peace, security, and dignity.

It is not to have their livelihood threatened by vile acts of terrorists who offer no reasonable alternative,” he affirmed.
