A Zamfara-based philanthropist, Alhaji Sanusi Bala-Turaki has offered scholarships to 13 students of various tertiary institutions in the State.
It was gathered that barely two weeks to the commencement of first semester examination, a large number of students of the Federal University Gusau, FUG, are yet to pay school fees for the 2022/2023 academic session.
This is sequel to the prevailing socio-economic hardship and increase of school fees by the management of the institution.
Bala-Turaki, through his foundation “Maituta Support Organisation for Humanitarian Services”, presented registration fees to the 13 beneficiaries in Gusau.
Turaki, represented at the occasion by the Chairman of the foundation, Zaharadeen Sarki said the gesture was aimed at supporting students from less-privileged families.
“The registration fees of the beneficiaries were bankrolled by the philanthropist, we will continue to sustain these gestures until they finish their studies.
“This is in addition to hundreds of students sponsored under this foundation in the various tertiary institutions across the country.
“All the 13 beneficiaries were drawn from the indigent families, who could not pay their school fees due to the economic challenges.

“All the beneficiaries are undergoing studies in various courses in the Federal University and Federal College of Education, all in Gusau.
“Others are in the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe and Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata-Mafara”, Bala-Turaki said.
Also speaking at the event, the former Chairman, Zamfara Radio and Television Services, Alhaji Sa’idu Maishanu, commended Bala-Turaki and officials of the foundation for their support to the beneficiaries.
Maishanu urged political office holders in the State to emulate the philanthropist in supporting the needy
Abubakar Ibrahim, a 100 level student in Chemistry Department, FUG, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, described the gesture as a welcome development.
“We appreciate this gesture and we promise to concentrate on our studies’’, he said.
