Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the minister of interior, has appointed Shem Obafaiye, a senior officer, as the deputy commandant-general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ,NSCDC.
In an information obtained by The Nation, Obafaiye was decorated as deputy commandant-general together with two of his colleagues, Raji, a former commandant of Imo, and Fasiu Adeyinka, an ex-commandant of Kwara.
Obafaiye rose to fame in Nigeria in 2013 following a well-known interview that was shown on Channels Television.
Obafaiye had been removed by NSCDC as the group’s Lagos State Commandant. He was replaced by Clement Adesuyi of the Oyo State Command.
His issue started when he was asked to provide the public with the NSCDC website so they could learn more about the organization.
He said: “The one (website) that we are going to make use of is going to be made known by my Oga at the top. Yes. I can’t announce one now, and my Oga says it’s another one that we are going to use,
“If you want to know about NSCDC as at now. Ok, www.nscdc…. That’s all.”
The one-minute, eight-second clip of the interview became viral on social media, inspiring music DJs to “remix” it and sell shirts bearing the “Oga at the top” symbol for retail on websites.
“As the chairman of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), I decorated the three new Deputy Commandants General of the @official_NSCDC today,” tweeted Tunji-Ojo to announce the elevation.
