Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, declared that distractions were over and praised the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold his election in the governorship election on March 18, 2023.
He also pledged to intensify his efforts to carry out his mandate to improve the state.
The Nation reports that, the Supreme Court rejected the appeal of Chijioke Edeoga, the governorship candidate for the Labour Party, and upheld the election of Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, as governor of Enugu state.
Speaking at the Government House in Enugu, Mbah characterized the process of the judicial review of his mandate by the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Enugu State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal as a significant psychological, physical, and spiritual investment for the people of Enugu, thanked them for their support every step of the way, promising not to disappoint them.
The governor claims, it was a win for the people and a push to carry on with the current development efforts and pursue his vision of an expanded Enugu State.
“The ultimate court in the land, the Supreme Court, handed down its ruling on the final batch of appeals against the mandate you voluntarily granted us on March 18, 2023, just moments ago,” he stated. We give thanks to God for the learned justices’ confirmation of your holy will.
We would like to sincerely thank the learned justices for maintaining the administration of justice. Specifically, we appreciate that they have upheld your directive.
“For you, the people of Enugu, this judicial journey has required a significant emotional, physical, and spiritual investment. First, the Enugu State Election Petitions Tribunal heard and reviewed our case over the course of a drawn-out procedure, and in the end, your mandate was maintained.
The appellate court, with its seat in Lagos, once more upheld the earlier ruling with a unanimous ruling. The victory for the people of Enugu State has been upheld by the Supreme Court once more today.
“You are the winners of this legal battle, Ndi Enugu. I applaud your unwavering faith in us. We will never forget your unwavering prayers and support during every attempt to violate your mandate. They are not taken for granted by us. With these diversions now resolved, let us intensify our efforts to assist you. We are going to be even more committed to serving you with all of our might. Your unwavering support will be rewarded with our renewed commitment to working with Enugu State’s common citizens. We will focus more on your growth, well-being, and standard of living.
