In a groundbreaking move towards modernization and efficiency, the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, is gearing up to launch its automated passport application system.

The eagerly anticipated system is set to go live on January 8, 2024, as announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a comprehensive review of NIS facilities in Abuja.

The automated system aims to revolutionize the passport application process, providing applicants with a seamless, convenient, and secure experience. Notably, the initiative seeks to minimize human interface in the application process, aligning with the government’s commitment to enhance service delivery and security.

“We’re ready to go live. We are starting training, and on January 8, the solution will be live and direct for Nigerians to have a wonderful feeling, a sweet experience based on Mr. President’s Renewed Hope,” Tunji-Ojo declared during the inspection of NIS facilities.

The minister emphasized the government’s dedication to combatting the use of forged documents in passport applications. The move towards automation is expected to significantly reduce human contact in the passport acquisition process, promoting efficiency and accuracy.

To strengthen the security architecture and enhance document verification, the NIS has deployed personnel for document verification across all local government areas in the country. This strategic measure aims to scrutinize passport applications thoroughly and prevent the submission of fake documents.

“The automation of the passport application process is consistent with the government’s initiatives to use technology to improve service delivery and security,” Tunji-Ojo added, highlighting the transformative impact the new system is poised to have on passport acquisition in Nigeria.

As the nation enters this era of technological advancement, the automated passport application system promises to be a game-changer in providing Nigerian residents with enhanced comfort and convenience. The countdown to January 8 marks a pivotal moment in the modernization journey of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
