In a resounding call for accountability, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  has demanded the immediate dismissal and prosecution of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, over startling allegations of financial malfeasance.

The PDP is urging action in response to claims of looting involving the misappropriation of N44 billion from the National Social Investment Programme Agency, NSIPA,  fund, with an audacious diversion of N585.2 million to a private account.

Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, voiced the party’s concerns in a statement, describing the exposed fraud as just the tip of the iceberg in the unprecedented treasury looting and plundering of resources under the All Progressives Congress, APC, administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The spokesperson expressed deep disappointment, stating, “The continuing stay of Betta Edu as Minister is therefore provocative and amounts to stealing from a people and daring them to do their worst.” He emphasized the PDP’s assertion that the APC government is a hotbed of corruption and a sanctuary for thieves and treasury looters.

Highlighting the shocking reports of alleged looting involving Betta Edu and the suspended National Coordinator of NSIPA, Halima Shehu, Ologunagba condemned the actions as an affront to the millions of poor Nigerians the funds were meant to support.

The party underscored the severity of the situation, citing Betta Edu’s alleged directive to transfer N585.2 million into a private account, a clear violation of financial regulations.

The statement called for President Tinubu to demonstrate a commitment to fighting corruption by promptly sacking Betta Edu, subjecting her to investigation and prosecution, and recovering the stolen N44 billion.

The PDP also urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to invite Betta Edu for questioning and initiate a comprehensive investigation into the alleged corruption and treasury looting within various Ministries, Agencies, and Departments under the APC administration.

As the demands echo through the political landscape, Nigerians await decisive action, hoping for transparency, justice, and a strong stand against corruption.

In the face of allegations, the PDP demands swift action to address financial malfeasance and uphold accountability in government.
