The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt.- Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja has cautioned troops against negative influence of the social media.
He claimed that harmful and misleading information has frequently been disseminated via social media.
“Manipulated into making misguided decisions or indulging in illegalities, contrary to extant regulations and core values of the Nigerian Army,” he warned soldiers.
On Tuesday, January 9, during his operational visit to Headquarters 82 Division Nigerian Army, Enugu, the army chief made this statement.
The COAS charged troops of 82 Division and Joint Task Force South East Operation UDOKA to “remain loyal and committed to their constitutional responsibilities as enshrined in the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution, to guarantee the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation, as well as peaceful coexistence of the nation’s citizenry,” according to a statement made by army spokesperson Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu on Wednesday, January 10.

“The COAS informed that the Federal Government has made commendable interventions in the areas of combat enablers and troop welfare,” the statement read. He reported that the backlog of unpaid Group Life Assurance that had accumulated since 2011 had been paid by the government.
“He further disclosed that the Nigerian Army has started to pay for the accident insurance of its soldiers, emphasizing that it is necessary for soldiers to return these inspiring welfare interventions by staying obedient, maintaining discipline, and increasing their operational efficacy in the nation’s fight against security challenges.
“In addition, the COAS expressed gratitude to the governments and people of Enugu and Ebonyi States for their cooperation and friendly ties with the soldiers of the 82nd Division of the Nigerian Army.
The statement claims that the Governor of Enugu, Peter Mbah, acknowledged that “peace has progressively returned to their respective states” during the COAS’s courtesy visit to Government House.
The report claims that , the governor praised the troops for their dedication to bringing peace and stability back, which has created an atmosphere that has allowed for the states’ socioeconomic development.
