Fire has destroyed a popular multi-shop supermarket in Numan, a major town in Adamawa state near the capital, Yola.

The Nation gathered on Thursday, January 11, that the fire affected all the seven shops in the highly famous IFY Supermarket on the busy major street, Ahmadu Bello Way, Numan

The destructive fire engulfed the shops in the early hours of Wednesday due to electricity upsurge experienced in the community at the time, says a witness.

Some of the victims who narrated their ordeal, said they had lost all they had to the fire.

They appealed for help in restoring their means of livelihood.

The state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta and House of Representatives member from the area, Hon Kwamoti Laori, are among prominent personalities who had visited the place by Thursday afternoon.

Both described the incident as a great loss not only to the shop owners but also to the Numan people.

Farauta, conveying the sympathy of the state government to the victims and the entire Numan community, said the government was with them in their trying times.
