The late Malachy Ufot, a retired broadcaster with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, will be laid to rest on Friday, according to an announcement by his son.
Mr. Ufot, who served diligently in various capacities, was abducted by kidnappers on October 15, 2023, and later released on October 24, 2023, but unfortunately passed away the following day at a hospital in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. He was 68.
Having joined FRCN in 1979, Mr. Ufot played a significant role in the establishment of Radio Nigeria, Atlantic Atlantic 104.5 FM, Uyo, where he served as the pioneer general manager.

His contributions to the success of Atlantic FM earned him trust within the corporation, leading to further appointments.
Transferred to Bayelsa, he oversaw the establishment of Creek 106.5 FM, Yenagoa, serving as its pioneer general manager until his retirement in 2014. Prior to his career at Radio Nigeria, Mr. Ufot briefly taught in secondary schools.
Described as humble and generous, Mr. Ufot’s life is celebrated for his willingness to support others and contribute positively to society.
The funeral arrangements include a Vigil Mass on Thursday and the interment of his remains on Friday at his compound in Ikot Abia Enin, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. His legacy lives on through his impactful career and compassionate nature.
