Supreme Court has upheld the five years sentence of former House of Representatives member, Farouk Lawan, for accepting a $500,000 bribe from businessman Femi Otedola.
Lawan’s conviction stems from his involvement in a corruption scandal during a legislative inquiry into the fuel subsidy regime back in 2012.

The supreme court’s decision follows Lawan’s appeal to overturn the Judgement of the Court of appeal in Abuja, which had sentenced him to five-year jail term and acquitted him on two of the three counts in the corruption charge brought by the Federal Government.
Farouk Lawan’s conviction sends a strong message about accountability, especially in public service and reinforces the consequences for engaging in corrupt practices.
