Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has left FC Barcelona Femini after five successful years at the Spanish club and a move to the United States of America is on the cards for the Nigerian.

Bay FC announced the new signing in a statement on Thursday.

The 29-year-old forward has been struggling to make the Barcelona starting line-up this season, making only four starts in 14 appearances for the reigning La Liga champions.

Barcelona accepted a fee of €150,000 from the United States National Women’s Soccer League, Bay FC, for Oshoala, whose contract with the Catalan club was due at the end of the season.

Oshoala’s successful Barcelona stint unraveled

Meanwhile, Asisat Oshoala’s time with Barcelona has been nothing short of successful since she arrived at the Catalan club from Chinese club Dalian Quanjian in January 2019.

The six-time CAF Women’s Player of the Year winner has won four Primera División titles, three Supercopa de España Femenina honours, and three Copa de la Reina titles during her time in Spain.

Oshoala’s historic achievement as the first African to win the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Barcelona in 2021 is noteworthy, and she repeated that success in 2023.

The Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala of the Super Falcons has been named the 2023 CAF Women’s Player of the Year, defeating South African Thembi Kgatlana in the process.

The Nigerian international was important in Barcelona Femeni’s success in both the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the Spanish Women’s League.

The former Arsenal forward was also a key player in Nigeria’s success in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which was hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
