A former governor of Yobe State, Bukar Abba Ibrahim has passed on. He died in Saudi-German hospital in Arabia after a protracted illness that kept him away for quite a time.
A family source said he died Sunday at a hospital in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and his remains already buried in line with Islamic injunctions.
Born in 1949, Bukar Abba Ibrahim was the governor of Yobe State from May 29, 1999, to May 29, 2007.
He earlier served as the pioneer elected governor of the state from January 1992 to November 1993 in the aborted Third Republic.
The deceased was governor between 1999 and 2007. He was also a senator representing the Yobe East senatorial district between 2007 and 2011.
He was a staunch member of the All Progressives Congress. He left behind two wives and 17 children.
