The Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, has issued a directive to the Federal Ministry of Interior, instructing the immediate withdrawal of all camouflage uniforms from security and law enforcement agencies under its supervision.
The circular, dated 16 January 2024, was addressed to the Minister of Interior and signed by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser.
ONSA cited concerns over the proliferation of camouflaged uniforms among security and law enforcement agencies, making them easily accessible to criminals and impostors.
The recent attack in Plateau State, where perpetrators reportedly wore camouflage uniforms, highlighted the urgency of enforcing the ban on such attire for agencies other than the Armed Forces and Police, especially during joint operations.

The directive emphasizes the need for stringent measures to ensure compliance with the ban on camouflage uniforms by agencies like the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and Federal Fire Service, FFS, under the Ministry of Interior.
Despite previous government measures to restrict camouflage uniforms to the Armed Forces and the Police, concerns persist over non-compliance by certain agencies.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Nigeria Immigration Service ,NIS, and Federal Fire Service, FFS, have been identified as major culprits disregarding the ban on camouflage uniforms.
ONSA calls for immediate action to enforce and uphold the ban on camouflage uniforms to mitigate security risks and ensure clarity in distinguishing legitimate security personnel.
