The Italian Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of parliament, on Thursday cleared the way for further military aid to Ukraine by a large majority.
In the chamber, 218 members voted in favour of allowing the right-wing government of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to provide Kiev with further goods and equipment.
Forty-two people however, voted against it. The fear that Italy, a NATO member, would not be a reliable ally of Ukraine under Meloni’s leadership has not borne out.

Members of the Legal party of Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini also voted in favour of the decree.
Legal lawmaker, Paolo Formentini said: “We cannot give up on Ukraine. We will not allow the autocracies to destroy our future”.
He called for more efforts in finding a solution at the negotiating table.
