In Isanlu, the headquarters of the Yagba East council area of Kogi State, two individuals have been confirmed dead, with two others hospitalized, following the consumption of a concoction.
The event happened on Tuesday evening when the four of them decided to experiment with combining some fruits and roots.
A youth leader of the area identified the four persons as Okiribo, Samuel Folorunsho, Shola Pempe and one other, who were renowned for their “drinking prowess.”
The youth leader, Segun Ariyo, said the four of them mixed Jimson Weeds and high plum fruits, known in the local parlance as “gegemu and obo fruits” and drank it to test their drinking capacity.

He said that a few minutes later, Okiribo complained of stomach upset and decided to go into the nearby bush to defecate.
He said, “It was there that he died. Samuel Folorunsho also complained of the same stomach upset and went home and died.
“The two others were lucky, as they were rushed to ECWA hospital in Makutu Isanlu. It was when Shola Pempe gained consciousness that he narrated what they drank to the people.”
However, the fourth person who could not be identified was said to have been an indigene of Kwara State who sojourned to the community a few years ago.
Chairman of the council area, Mr. Dare Venza when contacted said he’s on transit and will comment on the issue once he settles from his journey.
