A bill to amend, repeal and re-enact the harmonisation and administration of the revenue law has passed second reading at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
The bill, when passed and assented to by the state Governor, will checkmate irregularities or problems associated with revenue collection in the state.
The Speaker of the House, Danladi Jatau, commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for initiating the bill, saying that it would curtail multiple tax collections and boost the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, of the state.
Jatau also appreciated members for their positive contributions during the debate on the bill.
The law was to amend and checkmate irregularities or in revenue collection in the state, according to the speaker.
The speaker also said that the law, if re-enacted, would provide an enabling environment for business activities to thrive.
” This will reduce complaints by people on multiple or duplications in tax collections.
The speaker later committed the bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation to work on it and report back to the House on Feb. 27.

Some Lawmakers who contributed during the debate on the bill, including Daniel Ogazi and Hajarat Danyaro, said the amendment was apt and if passed, would reduce duplications as well as illegal tax collection in the state.
They said that the bill would increase IGR and enable government to provide social services.
They also said that it would encourage investors to come to the state to invest as well as provide an enabling environment for business activities to thrive.
The Majority Leader of the House, Mr Suleiman Yakubu had mentioned earlier while giving substance on the bill, that its essence was to ensure central collection system of revenue.
The majority leader, thereafter, moved a motion for the bill to scale second reading which was seconded by Luka Zhekaba, the minority leader.
