Renowned businessman Asue Ighodalo has emerged the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary for Edo State, beating other aspirants including Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.
In the exercise held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in the Edo State capital, Ighodalo polled 577 votes to emerge as the state ruling party’s governorship candidate for the September 2024 election.
The Chairman of the Edo PDP Primary Electoral Committee and Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State declared the financial and legal expert as the winner of the exercise.
It was reported that others in the race scored nothing except the Deputy Governor who scored one vote.
Meanwhile Omosede stepped down from the race.

In his acceptance speech, Ighodalo thanked delegates, supporters, and the PDP for their backing.
Ighodalo also commended the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki for laying a good foundation, promising to give his all for the state.
Asue Ighodalo is a Nigerian lawyer who hailed from Okaigben, Ewohimi, Esan South East LG, Edo State, Nigeria. He is one of the founding partner of the law firm of Banwo-and-Ighodalo, a corporate and commercial law practice in Nigeria.
