The Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, praised the effort of Nigeria’s senior male national basketball team, D’Tigers, despite their 82-89 loss to Libya at the FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers in Tunisia.

A statement released by Akeem Busari, the NBBF’s Media Coordinator, emphasized the team’s commitment to representing the country, especially under short notice.

Despite facing challenges and the absence of some players who were withdrawn by their professional teams during uncertain times, the NBBF recognized the players’ patriotic dedication.

The NBBF Board also expressed gratitude to the Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan Enoh, for granting approval for the team to participate in the crucial Afrobasket qualifiers in Tunisia.

“The NBBF also extended its profound gratitude to its various vendors and creditors for their pivotal role in facilitating the national team’s participation in the tournament,” Busari highlighted.

He emphasized the federation’s appreciation for the vendors and creditors for swiftly providing essential logistical support despite the challenges faced by the NBBF and the Ministry of Sports.

Furthermore, the NBBF expressed confidence in D’Tigers’ abilities to enhance their performance in upcoming matches and urged all Nigerians to support the team as they strive to make the nation proud and qualify for the 2025 Afrobasket championship.

Busari also noted that the federation is diligently working with the Ministry and NBBF to ensure seamless execution of the tournament.

D’Tigers are scheduled to face Uganda in their next group game.
