A combination of traditional hunters, vigilance groups and Policemen Friday rescued three abducted persons in Omupo District, Kwara State.
No ransom was paid while one bandit fell to a superior fire power as two ladies and one of their husbands were abducted at Gaa Sulu, near Omupo.
The Coordinator, Joint Security Network, Kwara South District, Elder Oyin Zubair disclosed that hunters and vigilante groups combed the forests through Bayagan to Maloko, Jobi and Alo provoking exchange of gunfire between the rescue team and the kidnappers.
Elder Zubair said the hunters were also joined by residents from various communities in the area to chase the six kidnappers, leading to the freedom of the abducted persons and arrest of some of the criminals.
He said the operation was successful owing largely to the cooperation of both Meyitti Allah vigilante and members of the Joint Security Network Movement with the active support of traditional rulers from the area.
“The operation was successful by not allowing the bandits to dictate terms for the freedom of their abductees. It shows the readiness of the local people to take the war to the bandits terrorising the State and Kwara South Senatorial District in particular”, Elder Zubair noted.
The coordinator commended the Police Commissioner, Mr Victor Olaiya and other officers who actively monitored and encouraged the success of the operation.
