The 2024 edition of the Anambra School Sports Festival will hold between April 17 and May 24 with 12 selected sporting events.
Patrick-Estate Onyedum, who is the Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, shared this information during the inauguration of the 18-person School Sports Festival Main Organising Committee in Awka on Monday.
He mentioned that the competition, which will be done with the help of the Ministry of Education, will have three age groups: U12 for primary schools, U14 for junior secondary schools, and U18 for senior secondary schools.
Onyedum also listed the approved games for the festival, which include Athletics, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Football, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Scrabble, Swimming, and Volleyball.

He mentioned that registration and form submission will be open from March 1 to April 8. The competition will start from the Local Government Areas, then move through the Senatorial Districts, and finally reach the State finals.
Onyedum highlighted that the school sports festival, reintroduced in 2023 after ten years, is part of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s 5-Point Agenda on sports. He expressed gratitude to the Governor for his support during the previous edition, which was successful in discovering many talents that represented the state and won numerous medals at the National Youth Games.
Onyedum officially inaugurated the Main Organising Committee and urged everyone to give their best to make the festival even better this time.
