Nigeria urgently requires an ecosystem that promotes local content and a supportive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship in the telecommunications sector.
Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commision, NCC, Dr. Abdullahi Maida spoke at the 45th Kaduna International Trade where the emphasized the significance of the theme on “Sustaining Economic Recovery through Deepening Local Content Value Chain” in line with the NCC’s objectives.
Dr. Maida said the NCC’s commitment to advancing local content development and fostering an enabling environment for innovation and entrepreneurship within the telecommunications sector.
He emphasized the importance of deepening the local content value chain in driving economic sustainability, technological advancement, job creation, and skill development.
He also highlighted the role of the NCC as an independent national regulatory authority overseeing telecommunications services in Nigeria and reiterated the Commission’s vision to create a conducive regulatory environment ensuring universal access to affordable and equitable services, thereby supporting economic growth.
Dr. Maida further announced various initiatives implemented by the NCC to promote indigenous participation, including the establishment of the Nigerian Office for Development of Indigenous Telecommunications Sector and sponsorship of innovation-focused programs like hackathons.
“NCC is dedicated to consumer protection and empowerment, initiatives such as the Consumer Education Outreach Programmes, Consumer Complaints Management, and the development of the Do-Not-Disturb (DND) Short Code,” he added.

The CEO concluded by expressing gratitude to the organizers of the trade fair and encouraging all stakeholders to utilize the platform for collaboration and engagement.

Dr. Maida reaffirmed NCC’s commitment to promoting local content development and ensuring consumer satisfaction within the telecommunications industry, ultimately contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth and recovery.
