President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has landed in Akure, the Ondo State capital on an official visit to the state.

The Nigerian Airforce jet conveying the president and his entourage touched down at the Akure airport at 11:35 am.

He was received by Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his Ekiti State counterpart, Biodun Oyebanji as well as top government functionaries and prominent politicians.

A presidential parade was put in place at the terminal of the airport to welcome President Tinubu to the Sunshine State.

The president is expected to visit the palace of Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye and the families of the former governor of the state, late Oluwarootimi Akereodolu also in Owo. He is also expected to pay a courtesy visit to the National Leader of the pan-Yoruba social cultural organization, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

Meanwhile, the President will on Thursday, February 29, inaugurate the Lagos Red Line Train Project.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso disclosed that the train will run from Agbado in Ogun state to Oyingbo in the heart of Lagos.  it willHe explained that when fully operational, will run 37 trips and convey about 500,000 passengers daily.

While stating that the commissioning will signal the take-off of another major game changer in the state’s transportation infrastructure, Omotoso said “it brings to two the rail lines owned and operated by the Lagos State Government. The first, Blue Line, runs from Marina to Mile 2.”

He emphasized that the train will reduce drastically travel time on the corridor, abate stress-induced health challenges and increase the productive capacity of the economy.

“It will also reduce traffic gridlock and road accidents, and ensure the safety of commuters,” he added.

He mentioned that as part of the inter-modal connectivity of the state’s public transportation infrastructure, the Red Line is integrated with Bus Terminals at Ikeja, Oshodi, Oyingbo, Yaba and Iju.

“To guarantee the safety of commuters and Lagosians, the rail corridor has 10 vehicular overpasses and pedestrian bridges to separate the train from vehicular and pedestrian traffic,” he noted.
