The City of Boston, Massachusetts, USA, has officially proclaimed March 2 as “Burna Boy Day” in honor of the Nigerian artist’s outstanding performances and advocacy efforts.
This information was shared in a letter signed by Ruthzee Louijeune, the Boston City Councilor. The letter emphasizes that Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as “Burna Boy,” was born and raised in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He has become a global cultural icon, contributing significantly to the popularization of afrobeats worldwide.
It mentions that Burna Boy’s success challenges the narrative that often marginalizes African voices and overlooks the continent’s cultural richness. His music, which blends contemporary sounds with Nigerian and African identity, has resonated globally and paved the way for artists with similar backgrounds.
Burna Boy is recognized for advocating for marginalized communities and promoting their rights through his performances and activism.
