FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed opposition to the International Football Association Board’s proposal for ‘blue cards’.
He mentioned being unaware of the idea before it gained public attention. FIFA President Gianni Infantino rejected the proposal to introduce ‘blue cards’ in football, which would allow referees to send players off for 10 minutes for dissent or cynical fouls. The proposal was discussed at the IFAB’s Annual General Meeting in Scotland.

Infantino stated that FIFA opposes the use of blue cards and emphasized that they will not be implemented at elite levels of the game. He mentioned that FIFA was not previously aware of the topic and emphasized FIFA’s influence within the IFAB.
While FIFA is open to considering new ideas and proposals, Infantino stressed the importance of preserving the essence and tradition of the game. He concluded by stating that there will be no blue cards in football.
