The Union of European Football Associations, UEFA, has revealed the new format for the Champions League, set to be introduced from the 2024–2025 season onwards.
UEFA, via Fabrizio Romano, announced changes to the competition format. The current 32-team group stage will become a 36-team league phase in the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League.

Each team will face eight opponents, two from each seeding pot, playing four home and four away games. The top eight teams will advance directly.
Teams finishing ninth through 24th will compete in a knockout playoff round to join the top eight in the pre-quarterfinals.
However, teams placing 25th to 36th are eliminated from all competitions, a change from the previous system where third-placed group finishers dropped down to the lower European league’s preliminary playoff round.
