Former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, has urged the global business community to pull resources together to address humanitarian crises across the world.

Aganga, at the House of Lords in London on Tuesday stressed that increased commitment from the International Rescue Committee, IRC, would not only give hope to those affected by conflicts but also attract new support from the business community.

The IRC, which has its presence in over fifty countries including Ukraine, Afghanistan and Gaza, helps people affected by humanitarian crises, survive, recover and rebuild their lives.

He said, “I would like to commend IRC for the much-needed work it does to help people affected by humanitarian crises, including the climate crisis to survive, recover and rebuild their lives. I would like to raise two keywords to RECOVER and REBUILD lives”.

“These are areas where I will put a challenge to IRC, its partners, and friends. This is an area that probably needs greater visibility and impact to attract new supporters from the business community,” the former financial minister further said.

Aganga noted that “For IRC clients to be seen as an area of investment, they must be re-empowered to build sustainable livelihoods working with key partners. The vision of women and men who previously ran successful businesses or careers building back and creating sustainable communities is a reality.”

The Committee spent a rerecord $808.3 million in 2020 to tackle humanitarian crisis across the globe.
