Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, Tunisia, and Madagascar have all secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the men’s team table tennis event at the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.
In the ongoing tournament, Egypt secured the top spot in group 1 by defeating Ethiopia and Gabon with 3-0 victories, maintaining a flawless record. Similarly, Nigeria, competing in group 2 against Congo DR and Mauritania, claimed a 3-0 win over both teams, securing their place at the top of the group.
Algeria also advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Angola and Guinea with convincing 3-0 margins, while Tunisia secured their spot by defeating Cote d’Ivoire and Kenya. Madagascar secured their place among the elite teams in the quarterfinals after defeating Ghana and Sudan.
However, the battle for the remaining three slots in the quarterfinals will be contested by the second-place teams in each group, setting the stage for exciting matchups in the upcoming rounds.
Khaled El-Salhy, the President of the African Table Tennis Federation, ATTF, expressed his appreciation for all the participating teams in the ongoing event and commended the host country, Ghana, for creating a conducive atmosphere for the competition.

He expressed his excitement over the participation of over 19 countries in the event and praised Ghana for its efforts in ensuring the success of the tournament. El-Salhy highlighted the significance of table tennis in Ghana, noting its resurgence reminiscent of the sport’s popularity in the 1970s.
He emphasized the importance of the tournament as a platform to showcase the sport to the world, citing the thrilling matches witnessed during the singles event finals as a testament to the appeal of table tennis. El-Salhy expressed optimism for more exciting matches as the event progresses, further promoting the sport globally.
