In a bid to streamline the operations of Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, and Commissions, the Federal Government has officially initiated the implementation of the long-awaited recommendations put forward by the Oronsaye report.
This significant move was announced by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in a press release issued on March 7, 2024.
The Committee tasked with overseeing the execution of these recommendations was inaugurated by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The primary objective of this initiative is to curb the cost of governance while enhancing operational efficiency across various governmental sectors.
President Tinubu’s endorsement of the implementation of the Oronsaye report marks a pivotal development, occurring twelve years after the initial submission of the report. Despite numerous attempts in the past, this signifies a concrete step towards realizing the proposed reforms outlined in the report.
The Committee comprises esteemed members from various governmental departments and agencies include; Sen. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, the Attorney General of the Federation/ Minister of Justice, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Usman Hadiza Bala, the Special Adviser to the President, Policy & Coordination, Dr. Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, the Director-General Bureau of Public Service Reform, Sen. Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju, the Senior Special Assistant to the President of the National Assembly, Hakeem Muri Okunola, the Principal Secretary to the President, Richard P. Pheelangwah, the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office.
Sen. George Akume outlined the Committee’s overarching guidelines, emphasizing the thorough review of current mandates, identification of redundancies, and alignment of objectives with governmental priorities. The committee is also tasked with engaging stakeholders, drafting actionable revisions, ensuring legal compliance, and effectively communicating the changes.

President Tinubu has set a stringent 12-week deadline for the Committee to present its comprehensive report, signaling the urgency and commitment of the government towards implementing these reforms.
This initiative underscores the government’s unwavering dedication to enhancing governance efficiency, reducing bureaucracy, and optimizing resources for the benefit of the Nigerian populace.
