Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa has sanctioned a reduction of working hours for workers in the state by two hours during the 2024 Ramadan fast period.

Alhaji Muhammad Dagaceri, the state Head of the Service, announced in a statement on Tuesday in Dutse that there would be changes in the working hours during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Dagaceri claimed that workers are expected to report to work at 9 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays, instead of the usual 5 p.m. Additionally, on Fridays, workers would report to work at 9 a.m. and close by 1 p.m. as usual. The aim of these adjustments is to provide opportunities for workers to prepare for the break of fast and to have time to observe spiritual activities during the Holy Month.

Alhaji Muhammad Dagaceri expressed hope that the workers would utilize the Ramadan fast to pray for God’s guidance and blessings.

Ramadan is a holy month in Islam when Muslims fast from dawn until sunset. It’s a time for spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and increased devotion to prayer and charity. Beyond abstaining from food and drink, Ramadan encourages acts of kindness, empathy, and self-improvement. It’s a special time for community bonding and strengthening one’s connection with Allah. Through fasting, Muslims aim to purify their souls, deepen their faith, and cultivate gratitude for blessings in their lives.

He emphasized that it was their expectation for civil servants to use the fasting period to pray for the peace and economic prosperity of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
