Mrs. Remi Tinubu, the First Lady, expressed that she is not afraid of death, citing her age of over 60 years.
On Tuesday, she responded to Gov. Bala Mohammed’s comments regarding recent threats to her life.
She stated: ” I appreciate Governor Bala Mohammed for assuring me of my safety, but I want to emphasize that I am not afraid. At my age, I shouldn’t fear death if God has blessed me with over 60 years on this earth. I am grateful for the encouragement to speak out, and I want to emphasize that Nigeria belongs to all of us. This is a time for unity more than ever before,” she said.
Mohammed had earlier condemned the threats to the First Lady’s life, calling it a “national embarrassment.”
“I am deeply disappointed and frustrated by the death threats against the First Lady, especially coming from someone from Bauchi State. It’s a national embarrassment that someone from our state would threaten the wife of the President. I want to extend my apologies to the First Lady for this incident and assure her that the culprit will face consequences,” he said.
Mohammed acknowledged the First Lady’s significant contributions, highlighting her distinguished career as a Senator and her efforts to promote unity through initiatives like the Renewed Hope programme.

“Your commitment to transcending political differences and fostering unity through initiatives like the Renewed Hope programme is commendable and has been well-received,” he added.
“I am aware of the challenges and threats you’ve faced, but your decision to come to Bauchi today has truly uplifted us. Your courage as a mother and leader is commendable, and it reaffirms that Nigeria is united and indivisible. Your safety is paramount to us, and we assure you that nothing will happen to you while you’re here,” he reassured.
The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Biliyamin, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the First Lady’s visit symbolizes the peace and progress of Bauchi State. He dismissed any insinuations about the state not being peaceful, emphasizing the importance of the First Lady’s presence as a testament to the state’s stability and development.
