Telecommunications operators in Nigeria have issued apologies to users for network outages, attributing the disruptions to damage on multiple submarine cables along the West African Coast.

ALTON, represented by its Chairman Mr. Gbenga Adebayo and Executive Secretary Mr. Gbolahan Awonuga, issued a statement appealing for understanding regarding recent disruptions in communication services. They assured users that repair processes were underway by responsible international service providers.

The disruptions were caused by cable cuts, leading to equipment faults on major undersea cables along the West African Coast. This issue affected data and fixed telecom services in various countries including Nigeria, Ghana, and Ivory Coast. The cable cuts occurred in Ivory Coast and Senegal, resulting in disruptions extending to Portugal. Major cable companies like the West African Cable System, WACS, and African Coast to Europe, ACE, along the West Coast route from Europe experienced faults. Additionally, SAT3 and MainOne faced downtime.

Mr. Adebayo expressed regret over the impact of these incidents on data and internet service delivery by ALTON members. He appealed for continued understanding from users during this challenging period.
