Over 20 persons including a village head have been killed in an attack by bandits at Madaka community in Rafi local government area of Niger State.
The attack took place late Thursday when the bandits in their large number reportedly riding over 50 motorcycles stormed the community market at Madaka which was in its full session, shooting sporadically killing many and others injured.
Some of the injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital in Kuta the headquarters of Shiroro Local Government Area for medical attention while those who were in critical conditions have been taken to IBB hospital, Minna.
Many shops, houses, motorcycles, cars and grains were also said to have been burnt by the bandits in the operation which lasted for hours.
It was also gathered that the bandits abducted an unidentified number of villagers.
Residents disclosed that the Madaka attack came a day after gunmen attacked Pangu Gari, a neighboring village, killing the district head and four other people.
Sources said after the daytime attack, bandits returned in the night and laid siege to the community, shooting sporadically.

The District Head, Alhaji Isa Bawale who confirmed the incident called on the federal and state governments as well as Rafi local government area to as a matter of urgency to come to their aid.
Some of the villagers attributed the carnage done to them by the bandits to the absence of two of their vigilante members that were currently under police custody at the State CID Minna.
