The Ekiti State High Court convened in Ado Ekiti, has handed down a death sentence by hanging to Ayodeji Alomoge for the murder of his wife’s lover.

The 28-year-old defendant was brought before Justice Jubril Aladejana in April 2023 to face a single count charge of murder.

In his testimony to the police, the father of the deceased, Ige Ogunleye, recounted receiving a distressing call from his wife around 12:30 am. She informed him that Ayomide had been brutally assaulted by Alomoge and his accomplices.

Upon arrival at the scene, Ogunleye discovered his son lying in a pool of blood, sustaining severe injuries to his head and mouth. Alomoge was apprehended by bystanders, and when questioned, he confessed to attacking Ayomide due to his alleged affair with Alomoge’s wife.

Despite being rushed to nearby medical facilities, Ayomide succumbed to his injuries at the University Teaching Hospital in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The prosecution, led by Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, presented five witnesses to support their case and submitted the defendant’s statements, photographs of the deceased, and a medical report detailing the cause of death as evidence.

The defendant’s lawyer, Adeyinka Opaleke, called no witness but pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.

In his judgment, Justice Jubril Aladejana warned that rivalry between men over the affection of a woman should not be a ground to justify provocation.

‘’I consequently find the defendant guilty of the murder charge against him and therefore convicted him as charged.

‘’The judgment of this court upon you is that ‘’Ayodeji Alomoge shall be hanged by his neck until he dies.’’
