Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Wife of Lagos State Governor, Brings Joy to 350 Lagosians Through Empowerment Initiative.

At the fifth edition of her community sensitization and empowerment initiative, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the Wife of Lagos State Governor, has positively impacted the lives of 350 Lagosians by providing them with cash and vocational tools.

The beneficiaries, selected from all 57 local government areas and local council development areas, were recipients of Sanwo-Olu’s generous support at an empowerment program organized by the Office Of The First Lady, Lagos State.

At the event held in Lagos House, Ikeja, Mrs. Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the initiative reflects a dedicated commitment to the well-being and prosperity of every individual in the state. She highlighted its role in empowering communities, uplifting the marginalized, and promoting inclusivity and progress as part of a collective effort towards a greater Lagos.

She said, ‘’empowerment in form of cash, vocational tools and human resources are some of the ways in which the Office of the First Lady corroborates the efforts of some state government MDAs that have the core mandates for human capacity development and empowerment programmes.

‘’From the various interventions from the Office of the First Lady of Lagos State, empowerments of the citizens occupy a unique position because this gesture is extended to both young and old men and women.

‘’From skills training and entrepreneurship development to healthcare awareness and educational support, our efforts at the Office of the First Lady are multifaceted and far-reaching. We believe that by investing in our people, we are investing in the prosperity of our state.’’

Mrs. Sanwo-Olu listed other strategic areas of support and interventions by the Office to include the fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, SGBV, health care interventions, social welfare programmes for orphanage homes, educational interventions, fight against drug abuse, boy-child and girl-child initiatives, youth and women empowerment and caring for the physically and financially disadvantaged.

The governor’s wife urged the beneficiaries to put the empowerment tools to good use to liberate themselves from poverty and become independent individuals.

The state’s commissioner for commerce, cooperatives, trade and investment, Folashade Ambrose Medebem, commended Mrs. Sanwo-Olu for her kindness and efforts to make women economically viable, noting that the community sensitisation and empowerment programme is a catalyst for change and a beacon of hope to change poverty and inequalities among the people.

The high point of the event was the symbolic presentation of tools comprising hairdressing kits, popcorn machines, Shoe making packs, tailoring machines, and Vulcanizing machines, among others to the beneficiaries.
