German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock Monday met with her Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in Cairo to discuss Gaza Strip’s deteriorating humanitarian crisis.
Baerbock has been advocating for a humanitarian ceasefire for several weeks in order to allow aid supplies to reach the Gaza Strip and the release of Israeli hostages who are still being held by the Islamist Hamas.

At the start of her almost two-day trip to the Middle East, Baerbock demanded that Israel and Hamas reached an agreement on a temporary ceasefire.
“Only an immediate humanitarian ceasefire that leads to a permanent ceasefire will keep the hope for peace alive for Palestinians and Israelis alike,’’ Baerbock stated.
