As continuous efforts to crackdown on illegal mining activities intensify, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Command said it has arrested five persons for illegal mining in the state.
The suspects were said to have been in possession and conveyance of three truckloads of assorted solid minerals suspected to be mined without an appropriate license.
The arrests came as a result of diligent surveillance and intelligence gathering by the EFCC, aimed at curbing the detrimental effects of illegal mining on the environment and the economy.
The suspects, whose identities were revealed as three truck drivers and two boys were arrested along Maraba road, Ilorin and Ogbomosho, Oyo State between March 21 – 22, 2024.

Head, Media and Publicity of the agency, Dele Oyewale said they were apprehended by the EFCC while conveying solid minerals suspected to be marble stone, white powder, lithium and lepidolite to Shagamu and Alakija in Ogun and Lagos States respectively for commercial purposes without a requisite license.
“The Zonal Command had on February 5, 2024 arrested 41 persons over suspected illegal mining activities and impounded 12 truckloads of assorted minerals mined without an appropriate license.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” he said.
