Bayern Munich intends to pay €100 million for Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo, a center back.

Ronald Federico Araújo da Silva, born 7 March 1999, is a Uruguayan professional footballer who currently plays as a center-back for La Liga club Barcelona and the Uruguay national team. He is recognized for his physicality, aerial ability, speed, leadership, and athleticism. He is primarily a centre-back but can also play as a right back. On August 29, 2018, Araújo signed a five-year contract with FC Barcelona for €1.7 million plus €3.5 million in variables.

He was initially assigned to the reserves in Segunda División B.  He made his first team – and La Liga – debut on 6 October of the following year, coming off the bench to replace Jean-Clair Todibo in the 73rd minute of a 4–0 home win against Sevilla; However, he was sent off in the 86th minute after fouling Javier Hernández.

Araújo was promoted to the main squad for the 2020-21 season, taking over the number 4 jersey from Ivan Rakitić. On December 19, 2020, he scored his first La Liga goal for Barcelona in a 2-2 home draw with Valencia.

On March 20, 2022, Araújo scored his first goal in El Clásico, heading in a corner from Ousmane Dembélé in a 4-0 away win against the league leaders at Santiago Bernabéu.

The Bundesliga giants are among several clubs interested in signing the defender, but Barcelona wants to keep the Uruguay international and has already offered him a new contract, with his current deal expiring in 2026, according to Marca. The Blaugrana proposed extending Araújo’s contract until 2029, but the player has yet to respond.

Barca still believe that they will be able to reach an agreement to renew Araújo’s deal, but they can’t be completely certain, especially with Bayern’s mooted bid on his mind.

For now, however, all of Barcelona’s attention is on two pivotal matches coming up after the international break: The first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain on April 10, and a title-defining Clasico in Madrid on April 21. No negotiations with Araújo will happen during that time.
