African Union, AU, Commission Chairperson Moussa Mahamat has extended congratulations to Bassirou Faye on his victory in Senegal’s presidential election.
In a statement released on Friday, Faki warmly congratulated Faye on his official proclamation as the next president of Senegal in the first round of elections. Faki expressed his best wishes to Faye for success in his important responsibility of fostering a peaceful, stable, and tolerant democracy for the benefit of inclusive and shared prosperity.

The statement also highlighted the AU’s approval of the unanimous acceptance of the election results by the entire Senegalese political community.
The statement further added that the AU welcomes the unanimous acceptance of the results of the presidential elections by the entire Senegalese political class. Faki commended the “dignified and responsible” behavior of all Senegalese political and social actors which he said attested to the deep roots of democratic traditions in the West African country.
Faye, the candidate of the opposition coalition “Diomaye President,” won 54.28 per cent of the votes, according to results released Wednesday by the country’s National Vote Counting Commission.
