The Super Falcons are gearing up for their crucial 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against South Africa, with a blend of familiar faces and new arrivals.

Among the notable arrivals are captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi, and defender Jumoke Alani, who have all joined the team’s camp in Abuja. The presence of Atletico Madrid’s attacking midfielder Ajibade and Oluehi, who plays for Saudi Women’s Premier League club Eastern Flames, is expected to set the tone for other players who are anticipated to strengthen the squad further.

Former Falconets star Alani has been called up to replace Ashleigh Plumptre, who got injured. Plumptre played a key role in the Super Falcons’ journey to the knockout rounds of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Also joining the squad are Shukurat Oladipo, Chidinma Okeke, and Gift Monday.

Head coach Randy Waldrum has invited 22 players as the Super Falcons prepare to play against Banyana Banyana. Nigeria’s last appearance in the Olympic Games was in 2008, and the team is eager for a comeback after facing setbacks in 2012, 2016, and 2020.

Equatorial Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire stood in the way of the Super Falcons’ Olympic dreams in the last two editions. Despite these setbacks, recent wins against Ethiopia and Cameroon have boosted the team’s confidence. They are now focused on qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. The tournament will take place from July 24th to August 10th.
