Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State honored Pelumi Nubi, a Nigeria-British citizen and travel content creator, who recently completed a solo drive from London to Lagos in 68 days.
In recognition of her remarkable achievement, the governor presented her with a branded car and named her a tourism ambassador of the state. The presentation took place at Lagos House Marina, with notable dignitaries including her parents, Prof and Mrs Gbenga Timothy Nubi, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Folasade Ogunsola, among others, in attendance.
“I officially welcome you, Pelumi, on behalf of Lagos’ 25 million plus residents and the entire country. We want to express how proud we are to be associated with you.
“You can’t imagine how transformative this will be for you; welcome to your new world.
“We will not only have you signpost Lagos where it should be, but also have your family name written right in the center of it; based on your experience and journey, you have moved mountains.
“You have exemplified both the African and Nigerian spirits, but more than anything, this is the story of Lagos that will live on,” said Sanwo-Olu.
Although he asserted to have traveled, he realized he needed to attend lectures from her after learning about her 80 countries.
The governor said, “I want to thank you for telling our story as Africans.”
Credible News reports that Her road manifest from the UK, led her via Morocco, France, and Spain into Africa.

She traveled through Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Ghana, Togo, Benin, and finally Lagos, Nigeria, according to the information.
Sanwo-Olu urged young people to have faith in their own abilities and to show resilience like Nubi did.
He reminded the young people that there were many more Pelumis out there waiting to be found, so they should avoid drugs and pursue their passions.
“For the young boys and girls not to allow drugs and defeat to throw them off track, that’s why we have decided to showcase Pelumi.

“It’s not just about you that we are celebrating, it’s about the future, it’s about the power of possibility. I want to officially label you our tourism ambassador.
“If you don’t mind, we’d like to write off your entire bill for this trip, give you a home in Lagos, let you explore the sights and sounds, take our train and bolt ride, and tell the world about Lagos. We’d like to give you a home in Lagos.
“We will work with you; we do not want to disrupt your plans. I’d like to thank your father; he’s very happy, and I’m sure the prayerful woman is your mother.
“We salute your parents for supporting you, and we thank the great Akokite and the VC for the welcome ceremony,” he said.
Dabiri-Erewa, for her part, praised Nubi for having such confidence in herself.
“One thing about this inspirational and courageous lady is that she didn’t want any help at all.
“I’m going to do it alone and get it done; her can-do attitude is admirable and worthy of imitation,” she stated.
Nubi responded, thanking the Lagos State government for the outpouring of love and support.
She admitted that it had been overwhelming, and she would not take it for granted.
“I am honoured. It’s not just about planning something, but actually doing it.
“I’ve traveled to over 80 countries, and I was very intentional about highlighting Africa because what you see in the mainstream media is poverty.
“The feedback has been amazing on my social media, people now see a new Africa.
“I will continue to showcase Lagos State; this is where it started from, it has been a great honour, it felt really nice to be recognised.
“Travel continues to be a part of my journey; when Lagos shines, Nigeria also shines,”she said.
Credible News reports that Nubi has lived in the UK since she was 10 years old.
She is living the dream of travelling solo to and from different parts of the world.
