After an inaccurate report from the Lagos State Police Command, social media users express their anger towards the Police PRO, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

Hundeyin had initially misidentified the well-known disc jockey, Obianuju Catherine Udeh, also known as DJ Switch, as DJ Commissioner Wysei.

In a post on his X account, Hundeyin clarified that it was DJ Commissioner Wysei who was apprehended and taken to the magistrate court in Eti Osa over allegations of fraud and assault, not DJ Switch. He extended apologies to media outlets that published the inaccurate news and appeased DJ Switch for the confusion.

Despite the apology, netizens flooded the comment section of Hundeyin’s post, lambasting him for spreading fake news and expressing distrust in the police force. Many criticized the perceived mischievous intent behind the misinformation and echoed DJ Switch’s assertion that the reports aimed to tarnish her image.

One user, @davidoghe, condemned the police for misleading the public, suggesting that innocent Nigerians might have suffered similar consequences due to such mix-ups. Others, like @alakowee and @holy_hero, accused the police of targeting DJ Switch and allowing hate to influence their actions.

Amidst the backlash, @NobleBenz highlighted the detrimental impact of such mistakes on DJ Switch’s brand, emphasizing that a mere online apology was insufficient. Similarly, @chukwura_a questioned the motives behind the mistaken identity and criticized the continued harassment of DJ Switch despite the closure of her case.
