Panic ensued as a fire scare caused disruptions to local flights operating out of Terminal 1 at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, confirmed this in a Thursday statement by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection Obiangeli Orah who disclosed that the smoke was first detected from the E54 Bridge at 5:29 am. The smoke led electrical engineers to immediately cut off power to the entire E Wing.
“The Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service team was quick to respond, arriving at the scene by 05:30 hrs. Initial suspicious point to sparks from an electrical unit as the cause,” the statement read in part.
The incident which later led to a fire, was brought under control by 6:41 hrs.
