The Defence Headquarters has admitted that the bombing of civilians at Tudun Biri, Kaduna State, last December was a mistake.

Director Defence Media Operations, Major General  ES Buba said after a painstaking investigation into the incident disciplinary action has been initiated against those found culpable.

Specifically, two personnel are to face a court martial for acts of ommission or commission with respect to the incident, but Buba failed to give further details to avoid prejudicing the case now before a court martial.

“Nevertheless, it must be made clear that the incident was a mistake. The victims of the strike were mistaken for terrorist. However, on this note, on behalf of the CDS, officers and personnel of the AFN. Our condolences goes out to the families and loved ones of all those killed by the sad air strike.

“It is hoped that there would be no repeat of strikes on non combatants in ongoing operations. The military will take extra precautions in the future to ensure that non combatants are safe”, said Gen. Buba.

Credible News reports that early December, last year, a drone strike was carried out by the Nigerian Armed Forces on Tudun Biri, targeting what they thought was a group of bandits.

The bomb mistakenly hit a village, killing at least 88 civilians and provoking wide condemnation on lack of precision in military operations.
