Police investigate Customs officer’s death, “Daba” clash in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into two separate incidents that occurred in Kano, resulting in the death of a Customs officer and two youths.

The Customs service officer, Abdullahi Abdulwahab Magaji, was alleged to have committed suicide by shooting himself with a Pump Action gun, while the two youth identified as Sadiq Abdulkadir, and Muhammad Sani, lost their life during an encounter between rival arm hoodlums.

A statement by the Public Relations officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa that was made available to newsmen on Monday disclosed that:

“On May 6, 2024, Custom Officer Abdullahi Abdulwahab Magaji, a resident of Farm Centre Quarters, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a Pump Action Gun.”

SP Kiyawa explained that sequel to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, ordered a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

In another incident on Sunday, armed groups of hoodlums known as ‘Daba’ engaged in heavy fights at Darmanawa Quarters Kano, resulting in injuries to three persons and damage to innocent bystanders’ vehicles.

He disclosed that the police arrested Muhammad Barde, 59, who organized a Gangi Event for his children’s upcoming wedding, which led to the supremacy fights.

Kiyawa further said that two other suspects are also in police custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Kano Police Public Relations Officer, said the fight escalated, leading to the death of Sadiq Abdulkadir, 23, and Muhammad Sani, 22.

SP Kiyawa assured that the police are conducting a full-scale investigation into both incidents, and details will be made public once available.
