Manchester City today emerged leaders of the English Premier League in the 2023/24 Premier League season in one last extravaganza of English football.
City knew a win would be enough to secure a record fourth consecutive title, and they did their job well, defeating West Ham 3-1 at a jubilant Etihad Stadium . It meant that Arsenal’s late winner to seal a 2-1 defeat of Everton was not enough for them to claim top spot.
With the UEFA Champions League places set , but the remaining European qualification were left up for grabs. Tottenham made sure of fifth pace, and a Europa League berth, by beating Sheffield United away.
Chelsea finished a spot behind them after holding on against Bournemouth, while Manchester United won 2-0 at Brighton to avoid their worst-ever Premier League points return — although they still finish in eighth place, the lowest they have ever ended an EPL season.
At the bottom, Luton Town join Sheffield United and Burnley back in the EFL Championship , while Nottingham Forest survived.
