Hospital plants 1,000 trees in Kaduna state

The Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Barnawa-Kaduna on Wednesday began planting no fewer than 1,000 trees within its premises.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Aishatu Yusha’u-Armiya’u, told noted that the three planting campaign was in response to the challenges posed by climate change.

She said,”Because of the challenges of climate change, there is the urgent need for the hospital to reposition itself before they get out of hand.

”The management of the hospital is setting up a ‘Green Belt Fund’ for the health facility.”
She said the tree planting exercise was the first of its kind and vowed to sustain the gesture, saying.

”We plan to plant 1000 trees in the hospital.

” Initially we plan to plant 1000 trees but we are starting with 300 and will continue subsequently.”
She added that two hundred from the trees were donated to the hospital by staff and a friend of the hospital, which included mango,citrus, cashew and guava.

She stressed that the importance of trees such as prevention of erosion and beautifying the environment, among others, cannot be overemphasized.

” I love the green environment more than the interlocking.

The tree planting is a community programme and i am urging each of the residents of Barnawa to plant at least a tree.”

In a remark, the Speaker, Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman, commended the hospital’s commitment towards ensuring that the state was saved from all forms of environmental hazards.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Bashir Nababa, the speaker said, ”Creating a green belt around the hospital, people need not only enhances the natural beauty of the landscape but also provides a therapeutic environment for patients,staff,and visitors alike.”

Also speaking, District Head of Barnawa ,Kabiru Zubairu, appreciated the hospital for the initiative, adding that climate change was now more real globally.

He urged the state assembly to pass a law that would compel each resident of the state to plant at least a tree in his or her house.

Zubairu also advised that schools and corporate offices should be mandated to plant trees.
