The appointment has ended the tenure of the incumbent, Solomon Arase a retired Inspector General of Police who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in January, 2023.

Credible News reports that the Police Service Commission provides that “a member of the Commission, other than ex-officio members shall each hold office – (a) for a term of four years and no more…”

A former Inspector General of Police, Arase was appointed as PSC boss on January 24, 2023, and was inaugurated on April 29, 2023 following his clearance by the Senate.

Ngelale said the appointments were subject to confirmation by the Senate.
