Four persons have been feared to be swept away by flood in the Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State during a downpour that occurred in the community late on Thursday.

The downpour, which continued till Friday and Saturday, generated heavy floods that reportedly swept away four persons, including a mother and child in the industrial community.

Sources in the community said the incident happened at different locations in the town, adding that the incident has caused panic in the area as family members have launched a search for the missing victims.

One of the sources said: “Two persons were swept away in Nnewichi, one along Nnobi Road and another along Nnewi-Onitsha Road. The mother and child were said to be returning from a church service that evening when the incident occurred.

“At the moment, family members of the victims have launched a search for their loved ones who have not been seen since Thursday.”

When contacted, the President-General of Nzuko-Ora (Nnewi Town Union), Dr Madu Atueny, said he heard about the incident but he was yet to confirm it.

Meanwhile, the state police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, when contacted, said an investigation would be launched concerning the development.
