The Adamawa Government has issued an urgent advisory for residents in flood-prone areas to move to higher ground to avoid the severe impacts of flooding, which could lead to significant loss of life and property.
Dr. Celine Laori, Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, ADSEMA, emphasized the gravity of the recent flooding that has hit Madagali, Demsa, and Numan Local Government Areas. Dr. Laori described the flooding as catastrophic, underscoring the lessons it has imparted to those in vulnerable areas.
The floods have affected 21 communities across these three areas, resulting in six deaths and displacing over 12,961 individuals. The disaster has severely impacted local infrastructure, including bridges, homes, shops, healthcare facilities, schools, and farmlands.
