The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has issued an order for the immediate deportation of Zimbabwean cleric Eben Nhiwatawi for breaching immigration regulations.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kenneth Udo, it was reported that Nhiwatawi was detained by NIS operatives on August 24 in Yola, Adamawa State. He had entered Nigeria on August 21 with a Tourist Visa (F5A), which is intended solely for tourism.

Udo explained that the cleric was found to have participated in the leadership election process of the Methodist Church, a clear violation of the terms of his Tourist Visa as outlined in the Nigeria Visa Policy 2024.
Following this infraction, the NIS Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, with Ministerial approval, has mandated his immediate repatriation. The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the country’s immigration laws, emphasizing its role in facilitating lawful foreign investment and activities that contribute to economic growth. The Service will continue to enforce immigration regulations rigorously to ensure national security.
